Description:
WHAT I CLAIM IS:

1. Apparatus for condensing vapors which comprises an insulated chamber, means for admitting vapors to said chamber, means for creating a partial vacuum in said chamber, and a direct refrigerating unit in said chamber.

2. Apparatus as defined in Claim 1 having a condensate reservoir in said chamber below said refrigerating unit.

3. Apparatus as defined in Claim 1 wherein spaced fins on said refrigerating unit are mounted vertically in said chamber to permit direct downward flow of condensed vapors.

4. A condenser for use in vacuum distillation which comprises a chamber, the walls of which are insulated, a refrigerating unit, including coils through which a refrigerant passes directly from a compressor and heat dissipating fins mounted vertically on said coils, a condensate reservoir below said unit, vacuum producing means connected to said chamber adjacent to but above the lower end of said fins, and means for admitting vapors to said chamber.

5. A condenser as defined in Claim 4 having a vapor distributing baffle beneath said vapor inlet.
