Multi-Purpose Reversible Combination Puller (Patent No: 649857)

Inventor: Brodie, Mike

Location: Vilna

Comments: N/A

Description:
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1.In a reversible puller, a threaded rod having a work engaging point at one end and a driving head at the opposite end, a centre support having a threaded opening therethrough to receive the threaded rod, an upper guide member fixed rigidly to the centre support to extend on opposite sides thereof, lower guides each connected pivotally at one end to the centre support and extending on opposite sides of the centre support, aligned slots in the upper and lower guide members, longitudinally extending bars fitted slidably in the said slots on opposite sides of the threaded rod, gripping jaws on the ends of the said bars and bolt means in association with the upper and lower guides for securing the said bars in adjusted position with respect to the threaded rod.

2.The reversible puller as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the longitudinally extending bars are provided with a plurality of grooves along the sides thereof and wherein each of the lower guides is provided with a protuberance adjacent its pivotal connection with the centre support and is adapted to mate with a selected groove in the said plurality of grooves.

3. The reversible puller as claimed in Claims 1 and 2 wherein there are provided springs co-acting between the upper and lower guides to maintain the upper and lower guides normally spaced apart.

4. In a reversible puller, a threaded rod having a work engaging point at one end and a driving head at the opposite end, a centre support having a nut secured removably therein, such nut having a threaded opening therethough to engage threadably with the said threaded rod, an upper guide member fixed rigidly to the centre support to extend on opposite sides thereof, lower guides each connected pivotally at one end to the centre support and extending on opposite sides of the centre support, aligned slots in the upper and lower guide member, longitudinally extending bars fitted slidably in the said slots on opposite sides of the threaded rod, gripping jaws on the ends of the said bars and bolt means in association with the upper and lower guides for securing the said bars in adjusted position with respect to the threaded rod.

5. The reversible puller as claimed in Claims 1 and 4 wherein the bolt means comprises a bolt in threaded engagement with the upper guide member at each end thereof and a bolt in threaded engagement with each lower guide at the end thereof remote from the pivotally connected end, such bolts extending into the slots in the upper and lower guide members and being manually manipulable into frictional engagement with the longitudinally extending bars.

6. The reversible puller as claimed in Claims 1 and 4 wherein the driving head is provided with a threaded socket, an extension rod adapted for threadable engagement at one end in the extension

socket and having adjustable jaws at its opposite end.
