Automatic Cable Gripping Safety Device (Patent No: 660373)

Description:
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

(1) A safety device to be used in association with a safety cable secured alongside a ladder or the like, comprising in combination a body portion freely surrounding said cable and slidable therealong, link means pivotally connected by adjacent one end thereof to said body portion and extending therefrom, means on the other end of said link means detachably securable to the belt of the user and cam means on said one end of said link means engagable with said cable when said link means is moved from the freely sliding position to the cable engaging position, the cable engaging face of said cam means being concavedly grooved to engage the curved surface of said cable, said body portion being substantially cylindrical and provided with an offstanding split shoulder within which said link means is pivoted.
(2) The device according to Claim 1 in which said link means consists of an angulated rod, said means on said other end consisting of a snap link, said cam means being formed on said one end and being pivotally connected to said body portion off center.
