Advertising Device (Patent No: 357517)

Inventor: Bowstead, John E.

Location: Edmonton

Comments: N/A

Description:
WHAT I CLAIM IS:

1. In an advertising device, a unit comprising a plurality of elements and two pairs of flexible members fastening said elements together whereby all of said elements may be turned successively by turning the upper element, to thereby alternately expose both faces of said elements; one of said members in each pair extending between the top edges of the uppermost and lowermost elements, respectively, and being secured to the top edges of said elements and disposed to alternately engage opposite faces of all but one of said elements successively; the other of said members in each pair extending between the lower edges of the uppermost and lowermost elements, respectively, and being secured to the bottom of edges of said elements and disposed to alternately engage opposite faces of all but one of said elements, successively.

2. In an advertising device, the combination of a unit comprising a plurality of elements and two pairs of flexible members fastening said elements together whereby all of said elements may be turned successively by turning the upper element, to thereby alternately expose both faces of said elements; one of said members in each pair extending between the top edges of the uppermost and lowermost elements respectively, and being secured to the top edges of said elements and disposed to alternately engage opposite faces of all but one of said elements successively and the other of said members in each pair extending between the lower edges of uppermost and of the lowermost elements, respectively and being secured to the bottom of edges of said elements and disposed to alternately engage opposite faces of all but one of said elements, successively; means suspending the uppermost of said elements; and a mechanism operating said means back and forth to impart a back and forth motion to the uppermost of said elements through an angle of 180°.

3. In an advertising device the combination of a shaft, a crank fixed on said shaft, continuously driven power means, a clutch between said means and
said shaft, said means including earn means operating to periodically actuate said clutch to turn said shaft with said means through angles of 180° only, a hinged lever adapted to be oscillated by said crank, a panel, and cooperating means between said lever and panel permitting of a back and forth or half-circular motion only of said panel.

4. In an advertising device, the combination of a shaft, a crank fixed on said shaft, gearing, a motor continuously operating said gearing, clutch means between said shaft and gearing, a spring normally retaining said clutch in inoperative position, a detent for braking said shaft, said gearing including cam means operating to periodically actuate said clutch against the action of said spring to turn said shaft with said gearing through angles of 180° only, a panel, and co-operating means between said crank and panel permitting of a back and forth half-circular motion only of said panel.

5. In an advertising device, the combination of a panel, a hinged lever, co-operating means between said lever and panel permitting of a back and forth half-circular motion only of said panel, and means for oscillating said lever back and forth at spaced intervals with intervening rest periods.

6. In an advertising device, the combination of a panel, a hinged lever, co-operating means between said lever and panel permitting of a back and forth half-circular motion only of said panel, continuously operating gearing, and means between said lever and gearing oscillating said lever back and forth at spaced intervals with intervening rest periods.

7. In an advertising device, the combination of a panel, movable means, co-operating means between said movable means and said panel permitting of a
back and forth semi-circular motion only of said panel, and means operating to actuate said movable means at spaced intervals with intervening rest periods.
