Pitman Bearing (Patent No: 358869)

Inventor: Bice, Samuel Daffoe

Location: Calgary

Comments: N/A

Description: What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent, is-

1. A pitman rod end-bearing of the type described with means for self oiling consisting of a pair of oil soaked wood blocks, an enclosing strap container for attachment of said bearing to the end of the pitman rod, an oil communication passage within said bearing block, means for securing said blocks within said strap container and for tightening said block together, porous washers set within the pitman rod as end plugs forming an oil reservoir therein, and an oil passage pipe to register with said oil communication passed conducting oil from said washers to said bearing.
2. A pitman rod end-bearing of the type described having means for self oiling consisting of an attached hollow connecting rod oil reservoir, porous felt or composition washers fitted within and towards the ends of said rod, oiling of said bearing being dependent on the reciprocal movement of the said rod when operating certain parts of agricultural and other machinery to create sufficient pressure for penetration of oil through said washers, a two-section bearing block at each end of said rod, a strap and extending sleeve to secure each said block to said pitman rod, a connecting oil passage pipe adjacent to said washers to convey oil to each said block, a capstan tightener nut to connect said pipe to said end-bearing at each end of said rod, an oiling passage within each end-bearing, means to tighten up each end-bearing, wedge means to hold blocks in place, and a reservoir oil filling hole and plug.
