An open fireplace comprising a fire box and chimney, an air duct opening in the room in which the fireplace is located, and having a portion opening in and forming part of the fire box, an air heating chamber connected to the aforesaid duct, and means for passing the products of combustion through the air heating chamber.

8. An improved fireplace comprising an air heating chamber, tubes through which the products of combustion may pass, an air duct entering the room in which the fireplace is located, having a widened portion and a vertical portion extending to the fireplace, and extending vertically to the floor, and an opening in the air heating chamber.

9. An improved fireplace comprising an air heating chamber, tubes through which the products of combustion may pass, an air duct entering the room in which the fireplace is located, having a widened portion and a vertical portion extending to the fireplace, and extending vertically to the floor, and an opening in the air heating chamber, the said opening being wider at the centre than at the sides.

10. An improved fireplace comprising an air heating chamber, tubes through which the products of combustion may pass, an air duct entering the room in which the fireplace is located, having a widened position and a vertical portion extending to the fireplace, and extending vertically to the floor, and an opening in the air heating chamber, the said duct being formed with a curved portion at the back of the opening.
