Claim – 4. An oil retaining member comprising in combination with an automobile rear axle, a cylindrical member mounted on the axle adjacent its journal, a spiral element on the member designed to drive the oil inwardly towards the middle of the axle, and means to lock the member on the axle.
5. An oil retainer comprising in combination with an automobile axle, a cylindrical member on the axle located adjacent its journal, means whereby the member automatically adjusts itself to the size of the shaft, a spiral element on the member designed to drive the oil inwardly of the shaft, and a flange on the cylindrical end, as and for the purpose specified.
6. An oil retainer comprising in combination with an automobile rear axle, a metal sheet cylindrically wound on the axle, adjacent its journal, a spiral flange on the metal sheet, a leather strip fastened to the spiral flange to drive the oil inwardly towards the middle of the axle.
