Electric Safety Switch (Patent No: 383768)

Inventor: Gardner, William Mackie

Location: Drumheller

Comments: N/A

Description:
Having regard to the foregoing disclosure, the Patent of which this specification forms part confers, subject to the conditions prescribed in the Patent Act, 1935, the exclusive right, privilege and liberty of making, constructing, using and vending to others to be used, the invention as defined in claims submitted by the patentee as follows:-

(1) A safety switch for automotive vehicles comprising a casing, electrical contact elements within said casing, a member designed to engage with said contact elements, said member being adapted to disengage from said elements upon said casing being tilted in any direction through a predetermined angle.

(2) An automatic safety switch for automotive vehicles comprising a casing, contact elements within Said casing, a weighted member engageable with said elements, said member being adapted to disengage from said elements upon said switch being tilted in any direction through a predetermined angle, the interior of said casing being shaped to permit said weighted member to return to its contacting position upon the levelling of said switch.

(3) The device as claimed in claim 1, in which means are provided for manually actuating said switch.

(4) The device as defined in claim 2, in which means are provided for manually operating said switch.

(5) A safety switch for automotive vehicles comprising a casing having a convex lower portion provided with a recess therein, electrical contact elements within said recess, a weighted member positioned within said casing having means attached thereto to engage with said elements when said casing is in a substantially level position.

(6) A safety switch for automotive vehicles comprising an insulating casing having a convex inner lower portion provided with a recess therein, electrical contact elements within said recess, a weight within said casing, the sides of said weight being tapered centrally toward the top, said weight being provided with a concave lower surface to register with the convex portion of said casing and means attached to said weight to engage said contact elements when said switch is in a substantially level position.

(7) A safety switch for automotive vehicles comprising an insulating casing having a convex bottom and a centrally disposed recess therein, electrical contact elements within said recess, a weight within said casing, said weight having its sides tapered centrally towards the top and having a concave bottom to register with said convex bottom of said casing, a plug of conductible metal depending centrally from the convex bottom of said weight to contact with both electrical contact elements when said switch is in a substantially level position.

(8) A safety switch for automotive vehicles comprising an insulating casing having a convex inner bottom and a centrally disposed recess therein, electrically contact elements within said recess, a weight positioned within said casing, said weight having the sides thereof tapered centrally toward the top and being provided with a concave bottom to register with said convex bottom of said casing, and a plug of conductible metal depending centrally from the concave bottom of said weight to engage with said electrical contact elements when said switch is in a substantially level position, said contact elements being attached to conducting leads extending through said casing.

(9) An automatic safety switch for automotive vehicles comprising an insulating casing hewing a convex inner bottom and a centrally disposed recess therein, electrical contact elements within said recess, aweigh t within said casing, said weight having its sides tapered centrally toward the top and being provided with a concave bottom to register with said convex bottom of said casing, a plug of conductible metal depending centrally from the concave bottom of said weight to contact both electrical contact elements when the device is in a substantially elevated position and means whereby said weight may be manually shifted to disengage said plug from said electrical contact elements.

(10) A safety switch comprising an insulating casing having a convex inner bottom and a centrally disposed recess therein, electrical contact elements within, said recess, a weight within said casing, said weight having the sides thereof tapered centrally towards the top and being provided with a concave bottom to register with said convex bottom of said casing, a plug of conductible metal depenc1ing centrally from the concave bottom of said weight to engage with said electrical contact elements and complete an electrical circuit therebetween when said switch is in a substantially level position and a manually operable plunger reciprocally mounted through 'the bottom of said easing to engage the bottom of said weight.

(11) The device as claimed in claim 10 in which said plunger is manually operable by lever means.
