Inventor: Crosby, Herbert A.

Location: Stettler

Comments: N/A

Description: Herbert A. Crosby, Stettler, Alberta, Canada, 26th July, 1927. Filed 29th April, 1926. Serial No. 311,342.

Claim.—5. A separator comprising a casing, a stationary cylinder therein, a partially spherical bowl member secured to the lower end of said cylinder and containing mercury, an inner cylinder spaced from the wall of said outer cylinder, a partially spherical agitating member carried by said second-named cylinder a shaft arranged axially of both cylinders and carrying said agitating member, the top of the second-named cylinder being open, a spout leading into said open top, and a discharge soon leading from the first-named cylinder and communicating with the space between the first and second-named cylinders.

6. A separator for the purpose described, comprising a casing, a stationary cylinder mounted, within the casing and depending from the top thereof, a partially spherical bowl member secured to the lower end of said stationary cylinder, a mass of mercury within said bowl member, an inner cylinder stationarily mounted within said first-named cylinder in spaced relation to the walls thereof, the top of the casing having an opening communicating with the second-named cylinder, a spout leading into said opening and said second-named cylinder, for conducting material thereinto, a discharge spout connected with the first-named cylinder and communicating with the space between the first-named and second-named cylinders, a shaft journally mounted with respect to the casing and extending co-axially of the first and second-named cylinders, said second-named cylinder having a constricted lower end portion, a partially 'spherical agitating member carried by said shaft and rotatably mounted with respect to the first and second-named cylinders and said bowl member and shaped to conformingly engage the constricted lower end portion of said second-named cylinder, and screw means passing through the first-named cylinder and engaging the second-named cylinder for maintaining the latter in centered relation.

7. A separator for the purpose described, comprising a casing, a stationary cylinder mounted within the casing and depending from the top thereof, a partially spherical bowl member secured to the lower end of said stationary cylinder, a mass of mercury within said bowl member, an inner cylinder stationarily mounted within said first-named cylinder in spaced relation to the walls thereof, the top of the casing having an opening communicating with the second-named cylinder, a spout leading into said opening and said second-named cylinder for conducting material thereinto, a discharge spout connoted with the first named cylinder and communicating with the space between the first and second named cylinders, a shaft journally mounted with respect to the casing and extending coaxially of the first and second named cylinders, said second named cylinder having a constricted lower end portion, a partially spherical agitating member earned by said shaft and rotatably mounted with respect to the first and second named cylinders and said bowl member and shaped to conformingly engage the constricted lower end portion of the second named cylinder, and screw means passing through the first named cylinder and engaging the second named cylinder for maintaining the latter in centered relation, and screw means extending through said shaft and through said agitating member for maintaining the latter centered with respect to the shaft and to the constricted end portion of the second named cylinder.

Claims allowed, 7.
