Description: Having thus described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-

1. A tool of the class described comprising a head having a recess opening outwardly of one end thereof, a gripping element including a base portion provided with a shank swivelly mounted in said recess, a clamping member, forming a part of said gripping element, and pivotally connected to said base and adapted to co-act with a portion thereof for frictionally engaging a strand of wire.

2. A wire stretching and splicing tool comprising a head having a longitudinally disposed bore opening outwardly of one end thereof, wire clamping means including a stem swivelly mounted in said bore, a collar on the outer end of said stem, a shank projecting from said collar, and a clamping member having a bifurcated end loosely engaging said shank and pivotally connected thereto.

3. A tool as in claim 2, said head being provided with an opening communicating with said bore adjacent its inner end, said stem having a groove adjacent its inner end, a claw mounted on said head and provided with a shank projecting through said opening and into said groove for retaining the stem in said bore, and means engaging said last mentioned shank for retaining the claw in position on the head.

4. A wire stretching and splicing tool comprising a head adapted to be connected to one end of a handle, said head being provided with a recess opening outwardly of one end thereof, a wire clamping member including a portion having a stem swivelly mounted in said recess, and a clamping element pivotally connected to said portion and including a cam shaped surface provided with teeth, said cam surface co-acting with said swivelly mounted portion for clamping a wire therebetween.

5. A tool as in claim 4, and a flange carried by said clamping element and overlying the cam surface.

6. A tool of the class described comprising a hammer head having a cylindrical recess opening outwardly of one end thereof and a bore communicating with said recess adjacent its inner end and opening outwardly of the top of said head, a stem rotatably mounted in said recess and provided with an annular groove adjacent its inner end, a head formed on the outer end of said stem and provided with an outwardly projecting relatively narrow shank, a clamping element having a bifurcated end loosely engaging said shank means pivotally connecting said clamping element and shank, a portion of said bifurcated end being rounded to form cam surfaces, one of said cam surfaces being serrated to co-act with a portion of said last mentioned head for clamping a wire therebetween, a flange disposed on one side of said clamping element and overlying said serrated surface, and a claw having a shank mounted in the bore of said head to engage the groove of the stem for retaining it in said recess, said claw having a V-shaped notch adapted to engage a portion of a second wire.
