Description:

Having regard to the foregoing disclosure, the Patent of which this specification forms part confers, subject to the conditions prescribed in the Patent Act, 1935, the exclusive right, privilege and liberty of making, constructing, using and vending to others to be used, the invention as defined in claims submitted by the patentee as follows:-

1. In a caster of the type described, an inverted cup-shaped roller-ball support, a roller-ball of composite material axially mounted and adapted to rotate within said support in a traversing manner, a horizontal axle supporting said ball, and bearing within lugs projecting downwards from said ball support, a spring retaining means adapted for insertion within and to detachably engage within the lower end of the tubular leg of a bedstead or other movable piece of furniture, and forming a pillar member adapted to 'swivel in conjunction with the said ball and cover, and a pintle axially offset from the vertical axis of said ball and cover upon which said pillar is rotably supported, said offset providing the necessary if following action of the caster roller-ball in conventional manner.

2. In a caster of the type described, in combination, an axle supported composition roller-ball, a hollow spheroidal ball support loosely enclosing a portion of -the upper half of
said ball, an axle horizontally supporting said ball within said ball support, lugs projecting downwardly from said ball support to bearably support the ends of said axle, a protecting tube axially disposed within said ball and bearably enclosing said axle, an expandable spiral spring and connecting washers forming a pillar for insertion within the tubular end. o~ a bedstead leg or other furniture piece, a weight carrying platform forming part of said ball support, a vertical pintle or pivot-bolt projecting from said platform to pivotally support said. pillar, and offset axially in parallel relationship with the vertical axis of said ball for ball-trailing purposes, and. a flanged disc between said pillar and said platform to maintain the said leg on the said platform.
