Warmfloor heating System (Patent No: 867010)

Inventor: Cook, William C.

Location: Calgary

Comments: N/A

Description: The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. A hollow floor structure, incorporating a heating duct system, for use in a building unit which comprises: a flat base member adapted to be disposed intermediate the walls of the unit;
a primary duct, carried by the base member, longitudinally disposed between a first pair of the base member's sides;
a plurality of shallow, substantially side-by-side secondary ducts communicating the primary duct, said secondary ducts extending longitudinally from both sides of the primary duct toward the second pair of sides of the base member, said secondary ducts extending laterally across the greatest part of the base member;
a floor member laid over the primary and secondary ducts;
said floor member defining an inlet, communicating the primary duct for admitting the flow of hot air thereinto, and a plurality of outlets, communicating the secondary ducts remote from the primary duct and the interior of the unit, for the return of air thereinto.

2. The structure defined in claim 1 wherein: heat reflecting means are provided to cover a portion or all of the bottom and side surfaces of the secondary ducts.

3. The structure defined in claim 2 wherein: heat-absorbing material is disposed intermediate the bottom surface of the floor member and the secondary ducts.

4. The structure defined in claims 2 and 3 wherein: the radiant heat-reflecting means comprises metal sheet.

5. The strupture defined in claim 3 wherein:
the heat-absorbing material is comprised of asbestos sheeting.

6. The structure defined in claim 3 wherein:
the radiant heat-reflecting means comprises metal sheet; and
the heat-absorbing material is comprised of asbestos sheeting.

7. A portable housing unit having a hollow floor structure comprising:
an insulated flat base member extending between the walls of the unit;
a transverse primary duct carried by the base member intermediate its ends and extending between its two sides;
a plurality of elongate spacer members extending longitudinally from the sides of the primary duct toward the base member ends to define a series of shallow, open-topped, side-by-side secondary ducts covering the breadth of the base member, said primary and secondary ducts being so constructed as to communicate one with the others;
heat-reflecting sheeting covering a portion or all of the bottom and sides of the secondary ducts;
a floor member laid over the primary and secondary ducts;
heat-absorbing material disposed intermediate the bottom surface of the floor member and the secondary ducts, said material extending laterally substantially across the width of the base member and longitudinally a portion of each interval between the primary duct and each end of the base member;
hot forced-air producing means disposed within the unit on the floor member;
said floor member defining an inlet, communicating the primary duct for admitting a flow of hot air thereinto from the said forced-air producing means, and at least one outlet, communicating the secondary duct remote from the primary duct, for the exhaust of air therefrom into the interior of the unit.

8. The structure defined in claim 7 wherein:
the heat-reflecting means comprises sheet metal;
and the heat-absorbing material is comprised of asbestos sheeting.
