Air Control for Oil Radiators of Aircrafts (Patent No: 588271)

Inventor: Anderson, Gordon J. (assignor)

Location: Edmonton

Comments: N/A

Description: The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. In a device to control air flow to the oil radiator of an aircraft engine, a fixed member having a plurality of slots therethrough and secured in front of the said radiator, movable members each having a plurality of slots therethrough, such members each mounted rotatably on the fixed member, actuating means connected to the said movable members to move the slots in the movable members into and out of register with the slots in the fixed member.
2. In a device to control the flow of air over the oil radiator of an aircraft engine, a fixed member having a plurality of wedge shaped slots there-through and secured in front of the said radiator, a pair of movable members each having a plurality of wedge shaped slots therethrough and each mounted rotatably on the fixed member in frictional contact therewith, spring means co-acting between the said pair of movable members and the said fixed member to maintain the movable members in position with the wedge shaped slots therein in register with the wedge shaped slots in the fixed member and actuating means connected to the movable members to rotate the movable members against the action of the said spring means to move the wedge shaped slots in the movable members out of register with the wedge shaped slots in the fixed member and prevent passage of air to the said oil radiator.

3. The device as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherein the said actuating means comprises a lever connected operatively to the fixed member, actuating links each connected at one end to one of the said movable members and connected together at their opposite ends, an intermediate link connected at one end to the said actuating links and at its opposite end to the said lever, a cable connected to the said lever and operable manually to actuate the said lever and links and rotate the said movable members.
