Description: The embodiments of an invention in which an exclusive privilege or proper by is claimed are defined as follows:
(1) A carrier bar adapted to be secured to the roof of an automobile via the rain gutters thereon; said carrier bar comprising in combination a transverse roof-spanning member, downwardly curved ends on said member, adjustable mean extending from adjacent said curved ends and adapted to engage under said rain gutters, and means on said curved ends adapted to register on said automobile roof being attached to said curved ends for universal movement thereupon, said means on said curved ends adapted to register on said auto roof comprising one double accurately curved pad portion engagable upon the double curvature of said roof, a socket secured to the upper surface of said pad and a ball upon said downwardly curved ends freely engagable within said socket.
(2) A carrier bar unit for attachment to automobile tops, comprising in combination a horizontal bar member, a ball provided on each end of said, bar member, the end portions of the bar members being downwardly and inwardly curved whereby said balls are disposed under the bar member, a roof engaging pad provided with a socket for each end of said bar, having said balls universally seated therein, and fastening means at each end of said bar unit comprising a rigid strap including a horizontal portion secured to the top edge of the bar member, a forwardly and outwardly extending intermediate portion projecting longitudinally beyond the curved end portion of the bar member, and an inturned lower portion extending inwardly from the intermediate portion and secured to the curved end portion of the bar member, an inverted roof gutter engaging hook, a loop provided at the upper end of said hook, a heated stud disposed in and projecting upwardly from said loop, said loop engaging the head of said stud and preventing the same from turning a second headed stud extending downwardly through an aperture in said lower portion of said rigid strap and having its head in engagement with said intermediate portion of the strap whereby the second stud is prevented from turning, and a turnbuckle operatively connecting the first and second mentioned studs together, whereby said pads may be clamped against a roof.
