[57] Upper and lower concave resilient packing elements surround the polish rod in the stuffing box and engage seatings formed in the stuffing box. Lubricant under pressure is pumped or injected into the stuffing box between the elements. The side walls of the elements taper inwardly from the outer ends towards the inner ends to seal more closely the greater the internal pressure which is maintained at a pressure differential relative to the internal pressure thus maintaining the sealed condition.
