[57] Apparatus for warning of avalanches or slides obstructing a traveled area. An array of geophones is positioned adjacent the area to be monitored and outputs exceeding a predetermined level used to trigger a warning system. A control arrangement is described to avoid the apparatus being actuated by vehicle traffic such as a train.
