Overhead Garage Door (Patent No: 445308)

Description: Gordon Raymond Coulson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, 2nd December, 1947. Filed 20th September, 1945. Serial No. 531,843. In the United States 31st August, 1945.

Claim.—1. The combination in a garage door of tracks on which the door is slidably mounted and extending vertically from a point near the bottom of the door frame on each side thereof to a curve above such door frame, and thence substantially horizontally rearwardly thereof, and means to move the door between a substantially vertical closed position and a substanially horizontal open position which consist of a single cable of which the ends are fastened to drums rotatable in unison and affixed to the structure of which the door frame forms part.

2. A combination as described in claim 1 in which the cable between its ends is threaded successively over a sheave near a bottom corner of the door. A second sheave mounted on the fixed structure at one side. a third similar sheave mounted toward the rear of the structure, a fourth sheave mounted on the door near a top corner thereof, a fifth sheave mounted near the opposite top corner of .the door, a sixth sheave mounted similarly to the third, a seventh sheave corresponding to the second but on the opposite side of the structure, and an eighth sheave corresponding to the first.

3. 4. A combination as described in claim 3 in which the third and sixth sheaves are under tension.
