[57] A block sulphur melting apparatus and method employ a generally horizontal heater grid extending over the area of the underside of a downwardly open heat resistant housing to melt sulphur under the heater grid. The molten sulphur flows between spaced portions of the grid and is removed from above the grid and from the housing by pumping. The heater grid is preferably a heat exchanger coil.
