Description: Charles Peeters, Toronto, Ontario, and Julius Bekaert, Edmonton, Alberta, assignee of one-fifth the interest, both in Canada. 10th July, 1917; 6 years. Filed 16th February, 1917. Receipt No. 275,808.

Claim.—1. A rifle shell comprising: a shell portion having a chamber adapted to receive inflammable material and having an open butt end, and means for automatically igniting the inflammable material to produce a flame passing through the open end of the shell and burning continuously until after reaching its objective.

2. A rifle shell having an open butt end, a removable cover for such end, a charge of inflammable material held within the shell, and means for automatically removing the cover and igniting the charge of inflammable material in its passage to its objective.

3. A rifle shell comprising a central portion forming a chamber for inflammable fluid open at one end and having a filling valve secured in the opposite end, a nose portion-secured to the central portion and extending over the outer end of the valve, and an igniting chamber portion secured in the open end of the central portion, a wall extending between the igniting chamber and fluid containing chamber having a perforation, means for holding the igniting material over such perforation, a cover for the lower end of the igniting chamber, and means for automatically removing the cover and igniting the ignition charge as the shell passes to its objective.

4. A rifle shell comprising a central portion forming a chamber for inflammable fluid open at one end and having a filling valve secured in the opposite end, a nose portion secured to the central portion and extending over the outer end of the valve, an igniting chamber portion secured in the open end of the central portion, a fuse filament holder adapted to receive filaments arranged concentrically around the interior of the ignition chamber, and a central fuse secured within the igniting chamber, a cover for the lower end of the igniting chamber having a central perforation through which the central fuse extends, spring means for forcing the cover off the end of the igniting chamber after the firing of the shell, a partition having a perforation extending between the igniting chamber and the chamber holding the inflammable fluid, and means for holding the ignition material in place over such perforation.
