Method for Preserving Wooden Fence Posts (Patent No: 715538)

Inventor: Blain, Robert L.

Location: Calgary

Comments: N/A

Description:

The embodiments or the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. A normally solid composition for weatherproofing fence posts comprising about 10% pentachlorophenol and about 90% crude paraffin wax.

2. A fence post having at least one end debarked, said one end coated with a film of weatherproofing composition, comprising about 10% pentachlorophenol and about 90% crude paraffin wax.

3. A method of weatherproofing a wooden member comprising the steps of heating a normally solid crude paraffin wax composition containing about 10% pentachlorophenol to a temperature of between 150°F. and 100°F. applying said heated composition to the surface of at least a portion of said wooden member for about 10 to 15 seconds, allowing said composition to cool to ambient air temperature causing said composition to form a hardened coating on the surface of said member substantially sealing said portion of said member from the air.

4. A method of applying a film of weatherproofing compound to at least a portion of a debarked fence post comprising the steps of heating a normally solid crude paraffin wax composition containing about 10% pentachlorophenol to a temperature of 170°F. applying said heated composition to said fence post for about 10 to 15 seconds, allowing said composition to cool to ambient air temperature to cause said composition to immediately form a solid film on the surface of said fence post to substantially seal said portion of said fence post from the air.

5. A method of applying a film of weatherproofing compound to at least a portion of a debarked fence post comprising the steps of liquefying by heat means a normally solid crude paraffin wax composition containing about 10% pentachlorophenol in a container, heating said wax composition to a temperature of 170°F., dipping the debarked portion of the fence post into said heated wax composition for about 10 to 15 seconds, removing the fence post from the heated wax composition and allowing the composition to cool to ambient air temperature to cause said composition to form a hardened coating on the surface thereof, and substantially seal the portion of the fence post from the air.
