Electrical Switch (Patent No: 262298)

Inventor: Broderick, Gideon

Location: Canmore

Comments: N/A

Description: I am aware that prior to my invention, electric switches have been made with plunger contacts. I therefore do not claim such a combination broadly, but -

What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent, is-

1. The combination in an electrical switch of an enclosing impervious insulative casing with one side separable, metallic cylinders therein, closed at lower ends by adjustable metallic plugs, insulative tubes closing the upper ends of cylinders, metallic plungers passing through the insulative tubes to the interior of the metallic cylinders, spring means for resisting contact of metallic plungers with metallic cylinder plugs, protective insulative casing to the spring means with external orifices in casing, exterior means of actuating the metallic plungers simultaneously, external electrodes conductively connected to the metallic plungers and electrodes conductively connected to the metallic cylinders, all for the purpose specified.

2. The combination in a double pole switch of an enclosing impervious insulative casing, two metallic cylinders therein closed at lower ends with adjustable metallic plugs, insulative tubes closing the upper ends of cylinders, metallic plungers passing through the insulative tubes to the interior of metallic cylinders, oil springs withholding the metallic plungers from contact with the metallic plugs, insulative protective casing to coil springs engaging the wall of the enclosing casing and having ports giving exterior access to the metallic plunger heads, separable means of depressing the plungers simultaneously, a reservoir of oil in each of the metallic cylinders, external electrodes conductively connected to the metallic plungers and external electrodes conductively connected to the metallic cylinders all for the purpose specified.

3. The combination in a double pole switch of an enclosing impervious insulative casing, two metallic cylinders therein closed at lower ends with adjustable metallic plugs, insulative tubes closing the upper ends of cylinders, metallic plungers passing through the insulative tubes to the interior of metallic cylinders, coil springs withholding the metallic plungers from contact with the metallic plugs, 1nsulative protective casing to coil springs engaging the wall of the enclosing casing and having ports giving exterior access to the metallic plunger heads, a separable actuating device consisting of a bridge piece of insulative compound carrying two projecting parallel rods, a reservoir of oil in each of the metallic cylinders, external electrodes conductively connected to the metallic plungers and external electrodes conductively connected to the metallic cylinders, all substantially as set forth and for the purpose specified.
