Cable Connector (Patent No: 881128)

Inventor: Frewin, Alfred W.

Location: Calgary

Comments: N/A

Description: THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

1. A connector for multiple cable conductors comprising in combination: an insert having a plurality of elongated male connector pins and a plurality of elongated female connector sockets arranged in parallel spaced relationship and in an identical pattern to form a hermaphrodite connector, said pins and sockets extending generally perpendicularly to the axis of the cable conductors, thereby resisting, disconnection of a pair of such connectors from longitudinal tension on the connected cables.

2. A connector for multiple conductor cables comprising in combination: an insert having a plurality of elongated male connector pins and a plurality of elongated female connector sockets, said pins and sockets being arranged in parallel spaced relationship and in an identical pattern for interconnection with an identical connector; a retainer connected to said insert and engaging said pins for retaining the pins assembled with the insert; a back cover mounted on said retainer and forming a hollow enclosure for said connector; fastening means securing the insert, retainer and cover in assembled relation; and fastening means for securing one of said multiple conductor cables to said connector substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axis of said pins and said sockets.

3. The structure as defined in Claim 2 wherein said back cover includes a cup-shaped member having a tubular handle of insulating material extending therefrom for receiving a multiple conductor cable therethrough, and cable clamp means on said handle for securing the connector to a cable.

4. The structure as defined in Claim 3 wherein said insert includes a bottom plate having a peripheral wall extending therefrom to define a recess in which said pins are disposed, and an adjacent body in which said sockets are mounted.

5. The structure as defined in Claim 4 wherein said retainer includes a plate having apertures therein receiving terminals extending from said pins and sockets, said apertures having recesses therein receiving base enlargements on said pins for retaining said pins in said insert.

6. The structure as defined in Claim 5 wherein said insert, retainer and back cover are constructed of insulating material.
