Sheet Break Alarm Device (Patent No: 657725)

Inventor: Gitzel, Edward

Location: Hinton

Comments: N/A

Description:
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. In a sheet break alarm system far detecting a break in a sheet passing over a sheet supporting surface, a switch supporting member adjacent said sheet supporting surface, a normally open electrical alarm circuit including a switch and said sheet supporting surface, the said switch comprising a chain suspended at one end from said switch supporting member and a weighted contact secured to the opposite end of said chain and resting against said sheet, said contact being movable into circuit closing engagement with said sheet supporting surface following rupture of the sheet.

2. In a sheet break alarm system for detecting a break in a sheet passing over a paper machine dryer roll, a switch supporting member adjacent the said dryer roll, a normally open electrical alarm circuit including a switch and said dryer roll, the said switch comprising a flexible member pivoted at one end to said switch supporting member and a weighted contact secured to the opposite end of said flexible member and resting against said sheet, said contact being movable into circuit closing engagement with said dryer roll following rupture of the sheet.

3. In a sheet break alarm system for detecting a break in a sheet passing over a paper machine dryer roll, a switch supporting member adjacent the said dryer roll, a normally open electrical alarm circuit including a switch and said dryer roll, the said switch comprising a chain suspended at one end from said switch supporting member and a weighted contact secured to the opposite end of said chain and resting against said sheet, said contact being movable into circuit closing engagement with said dryer roll following rupture of the sheet.

4. In a sheet break alarm system for detecting a break in a sheet passing over a series of paper machine dryer rolls, a switch supporting member adjacent each of said dryer rolls, a normally open electrical alarm circuit including a switch for each of the dryer rolls and said dryer rolls, each of the said switches comprising a chain suspended at one end from said switch supporting members, and a weighted contact secured to the opposite end of each of said chains and resting against the sheet, said contacts being movable into circuit closing engagement with said dryer rolls following rupture of the sheet, and means in said circuit to indicate a break in the said sheet with respect to each of said dryer rolls.

5. A sheet break alarm system as set forth in claim 3, in which the said weighted contact is a metal ball.
