Printing Process (Patent No: 344518)

Inventor: Walker, Lionel Sylvester

Location: Calgary

Comments: N/A

Description:
-Amended Claims-

The art of impressing type and printers' cuts into a flong to produce a matrix and of making a casting from the said matrix is well known, and I do not desire to claim originality in such art, but-

I claim-

1) The process herein described of reproducing shaded areas in printing work of all descriptions without the introduction of photographic cuts or plates, embodying therein the steps of making an impression in the form of lines, broken lines, or dots on a flong resulting in a plurality of shallow depressed lines, broken lines, or dots on the surface of the said flong and pouring molten metal on to the said flong, to produce a metal matrix that is capable of being printed from after mechanical inking thereon.

2) The art herein described of printing from matrices that have been cast from flongs having a plurality of shallow depressions in the form of lines, broken lines, or dots, the said depressions having been made in the flongs by the process described embodying the steps of pressing wire mesh or other woven material on to and into the substance of the said flange.
