Claim.—1. In a device of the character described, crossed handles pivotally connected together and pivotally connected to a single link and a double link respectively, a flexible strap having one end permanently secured to the single link, the other end being loose to adjustably engage with the double link, and means in the double link for holding the strap at a predetermined point.

2. In a device of the character described, crossed handles pivotally connected together and pivotally connected to a single link and a double link, respectively, a flexible strap having one end permanently secured to the single link, the other end being loose to adjustably engage with the double link, and toothed means for holding the strap.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a pair of operating crossed handles pivotally connected to one another, one of the said handles being pivotally connected to a single link and the other of said handles being similarly connected to a link member divided into two parts, one of said parts being provided with gripping and retaining means, of a flexible strip having one end secured to the single link and designed to engage with the two compartments in the double link and to be held at a predetermined point by said gripping means.
