Description: No. 174,983 Door for Grain Cars.

Neri Terry and John G. Schuler, assignee of a half interest, both of Hardisty. Alberta. Canada. 6th February, 1917 ; 6 years. Filed 12th June, 1916. Receipt No. 266,556.

Claim.—-1. The combination of a freight car having a door opening, members on the car at each side of the door opening forming guideways extending upwardly beneath the roof of the car, a door movable in said guideways, said door being composed of upper and lower sections, the lower section being hinged to the upper section to swing outwardly, the members forming the guideways constituting stops at the lower ends of said guideways, and the said guideways at the said stops being in the form of restricted throats, said throats being positioned adjacent to the position of the hinge connection between the door sections when the door is in the lowered position, members on the door adapted to engage and be arrested by said stops, displaceable door retainers on the door at each side of the doorway below the said guideways, and means to displace said retainers to permit the lower door section to swing on its hinges.

2. The combination with a freight car having a door opening and guideways at the sides of said opening at the interior of the car and extending upwardly beneath the car roof, of a door movable in said guides and composed of upper and lower sections, the lower section being hinged to the upper auction to swing outwardly through the door opening when the door is in the opened position, co-acting means on the door and. in said guideways to arrest the downward movement of the door when said door is in position for the lower section to swing outwardly, and displaceable retainers on the car at the sides of the door opening below the guideways and complementary thereto to guide the lower door section and prevent movement thereof on its hinges until the said retainers are displaced.
