Description: Edward Sherman Coyle, Nantan, Alberta, Canada, 18th August, 1925, Filed 15th April, 1925. Serial No. 301,732.

Claim.—1. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a slidable gate mounted in relation to suitable gate posts, a drum mounted upon one of the said gate posts with cables connected therefrom to each end of the gate, a chain and sprocket drive connection from the said drum to a rack and pinion which said rack and pinion is mounted underneath a suitably enclosed platform, a platform adapted to be tripped from each end separately through superimposed weight, and means for supplying the said weight gradually, and removing it gradually.

2. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a slidable gate mounted in relation to suitable gate posts a drum mounted upon one of the said gate posts with cables connecting the said drum to each end of the gate, a chain sprocket mounted upon the shaft of the said drum and connected by a series of chains and sprockets with a shafting mounted in a casing, a suitable casing underneath the gate with a platform mounted therein, the said platform being adapted to be tipped from either end by the action of superimposed weight which said weight is gradually applied, a toothed rack pivoted to the under side of the said platform engaging a pinion mounted upon a shaft, a chain sprocket mounted upon the said shaft which sprocket is adapted to be driven by the action of the rack through the up and down motion of the platform, counter-weights attached to the said platform, dogs mounted on shafts at each end of the said platform and engaging the underside thereof, and lever means for releasing the said dogs from the platform.
