Description: What I claim as new is,-
1. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot and a clutch adapted to ride on the stock of said pivot, being capable of operation adapted to offcenter the said gate, latches mounted on the other of said posts, load-operated platforms and means connecting these platforms with said movable hinge and said latches respectively, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot, a coil spring-compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a square perforation to ride on the square stock of said pivot and engage with a similarly wave face provided on the back of the said tilting bracket; a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, latches mounted on the other of said posts, load-operated platforms and means connecting these platforms with said movable hinge and said latches respectively, as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot, a coil spring-compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a square perforation to ride on the square stock of said pivot and engage with a similarly waved face provided on the back of the said tilting bracket; a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, a flanged roller, normally resting in said groove and adapted to ride on said upper face, positioned in a socket provided with a square stock to register with a square perforation in the top rung of the said gate, a coil spring engaging at its upper end with said top run at the other end with said socket, latches mounted on the other of said posts, load-operated platforms and means connecting these platforms with said movable hinge and said latches respectibely, as and for the purpose specified.
4. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot, a soil spring compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a square perforation to ride on the squire stock of said pivot and engage with a similarly waved face provided on the back of the said tilting bracket, a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, a flanged roller, normally resting in said groove and adapted to ride on said upper face, positioned in a socket provided with a square stock to register with a square perforation in the top rung of the said gate, a coil spring engaging at its upper end with said top rung and at the other end with said socket, a pair of latches, provided with soil springs, pivotally connected to the other of said posts, load-operated platforms and means connecting these platforms with said movable hinge and said latches respectively, as and for the purpose specified.
5. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot, a coil spring-compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a square perforation to ride on the square stock of said pivot and engage with a similarly waved face provided on the back of said tilting bracket; a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, a flanged roller, normally resting in said groove and adapted to ride on said upper face, positioned in a socket provided with a square stock to register with a square perforation in the top run of the said gate, a soil spring engaging at its upper end with said top rung and at the other end with said socket, a pair of latches, provided with coil springs, pivotally connected to the other of said posts, load-operated platforms positioned transversly of the approaches, one on either side of the gate, supported by coil springs and riding excavations provided therefore, said platforms being provided on their underside with depending tubular projections, and means connecting those platforms with said movable hinge and said latches respectively, as and for the purpose specified.
6. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot, a coil spring-compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a square perforation to ride on the square stock of said pivot and engage with similarly waved face provided on the back of the said tilting bracket; a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, a flanged roller, normally resting in said groove and adapted to ride on said upper face, positioned in a socket provided with a square stock to register with a square perforation in the top run of the said gate, a coil spring engaging at its upper end with said top rung and at the other end with said socket, a pair of latches, provided with soils spring, pivotally connected to the other of said posts, load-operated platforms positioned transversly of the approaches one on either side of the gate, supported by coil springs and riding in excavations provided therefore, said platforms being provided on their under said with depending tubular projections, and lever rode, provided with upturned portions to be received by said projections, fulcurming intermediate said platforms and said gate posts and terminating in push rods adapted to actuate said tilting bracket and said latches respectively, as and for the purpose specified.
7. The combination with the construction as set forth in claim 5 of two pairs of lever rods provided with upturned portions to be received by said projections, one pair of said lever rods having shorter upturned portions than the other, fulcruming intermediate said platforms and said gate posts, said lever rods, including said shorter upturned portions, fulcruming nearer the gate than said other pair of lever rods, and adapted to actuate said latches and said tilting bracket respectively, as and for the purpose specified.

In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilted on a pivot, a coil spring-compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a square perforation to ride on the square stock of said pivot and engage with a similarly waved face provided on the back of the said tilting bracket; a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, a flanged roller, normally resting in said groove and adapted to ride on said upper face, positioned in a socket provided with a square stock to register with a square perforation in the top rung of the said gate, a coil spring engaging at its upper end with said top run and at the other end with said socket, a pair of latches, provided with coil springs, pivotally connected to the other of said posts, load-operated platforms positioned transversly of the approaches one on either side of the gate, supported by coil springs and riding in excavations provided therefore, said platforms being provided on their underside with depending tubular projections, and lever rods, the upturned ends of which are received by said projections, fulcruming intermediate said platforms and said gate posts and terminating in push rods provided with adjustable ends adapted to engage with and actuate said tilting bracket and said latches respectively, as and for the purpose specified.
9. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot, a coil spring-compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a similarly waved face provided on the back of the said tilting bracket; a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, a flanged roller, normally resting in said groove and adapted to ride on said upper face, positioned in a socket provided with a square stock to register with a square perforation in the top rung of the said gate, a coil spring engaging at its upper end with said top rung and at the other end with said socket, a pair of latches, provided with coil springs, pivotally connected to the other of said posts, load-operated platforms positioned transversly of the approaches one on either side of the gate, supported by coil springs and riding in excavations provided therefore, said platforms being provided on their underside with depending tubular projections, and lever rods, the up-turned ends of which are received by said projections and fulcruming intermediate said platforms and said gate posts terminate in push rods provided with guides, attached to the said gate posts, and adjustable ends adapted to engage with and actuate said tilting bracket and said latches respectively, as and for the purpose specified.
10. In a device of the class described the combination with a gate and a pair of gate posts of hinges mounted on one of said posts to carry said gate, one of said hinges comprising a bracket tilting on a pivot, a coil spring-compressed wave-faced clutch provided with a square perforation to ride on the square stock of said pivot and engage with a similarly waved face provided on the back of the said tilting bracket; a pair of flaring rearwardly extending arms and a centrally positioned transverse groove provided on the upper face of said bracket, a flanged roller, normally resting in said groove and adapted to ride on said upper face, positioned in a socket provided with a square stock to register with a square perforation in the top run of the said gate, a coil spring engaging at its upper end with said top rung and at the other end with said socket, a pair of latches, provided with coil springs, pivotally connected to the other of said posts, load-operated platforms positioned transversly of the approaches, one on either side of the gate, supported by coil springs and riding in excavations provided therefore, said platforms being provided on their underside with depending tubular projections, and lever rods, the up-turned ends of which are received by said projections, fulcruming intermediate said platforms and said gate posts and terminating in push rod provided with guides attached to the said gate posts, and adjustable ends adapted to engage with an actuate said tilting bracket and said latches respectively and housing for said lever rods intermediate said platforms and said upturned push rods, as and for the purpose specified.
