A skate including a base plate having a longitudinal slot therein, strengthening flanges projecting downwardly from the base plate on each side of said slot, projections connected with said base plate adjacent each end of the slot, and means removably mounted on said projections adapted to form a bearing upon the surface skated upon and the base plate.

2. A skate including a base plate having a longitudinal slot therein extending from a point adjacent one end of the plate to a point adjacent the other, an undercarriage connected with said base plate on each side of said slot and. means removably mounted on said undercarriage adapted to form a bearing between the surface skated upon and the base plate.

3. A skate including a base plate having a longitudinal slot therein, downwardly extending projections connected with the base plate adjacent each end of the slot. strengthening flanges formed integrally with said projections and said base plate on each side of the slot, and means removably mounted on said projections adapted to form bearing between the surface skated upon and the base plate.

4. A skate including a base plate having a longitudinal slot therein, a pair of spaced apart downwardly extending projections formed integrally with the base plate, adjacent each end of the slot, strengthening flanges formed integrally with said projections and said base plate on each side of the slot, and means removably mounted between the members of each pair of projections adapted to form a bearing between the surface skated upon and the base plate.

5. A device according to Claim 2 in which the bearing forming means comprises a plurality of vehicles.

6. A device according to Claim 2 in which the bearing forming means comprises a blade extending approximately the full length of the base plate.

7. A device according to Claim 4 in which the bearing forming means comprises wheels rotatably mounted on axles extending between the members of each pair of projections, the upper parts of said wheels extending into the slot, each wheel including a pair of spaced apart plates, a rubber tire removably mounted between said plates end extending outwardly therefrom and a bearing adapted to facilitate the rotation of the wheel on the axle.

8. A device according to Claim 4 in which the bearing forming means comprises a blade having lugs thereon adapted to be removably secured between the members of each pair of projections, said blade also being formed at its forward end with an upturned portion having lugs at its upper end adapted to beer against the base plate between the forward pair of projections.
