Claim.—1. The combination in a knife of a handle of U-shaped cross-section, a separable blade having indentations in each end, a rotatable member hingedly attached to the said handle having at its free end a crank-shaped extension engaging one indentation of the separable blade, a bearing pin supported in the said handle engaging the other indentation of the separable blade, a sliding guard mounted on the rotatable member, means for limiting the travel of the sliding guard, all substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination in a knife, of a handle of U-shaped cross-section, a separable blade having indentations in each end, a rotatable member hingedly attached to the handle, of section suitable to pass between the walls of the said handle, a crank-shaped extension carried by the free end of the rotatable member engaging one of the indentations of the separable blade, a cross pin supported by the U-shaped handle engaging the other indentation of the separable blade, a sliding guard conforming to the cross-section of the rotatable member adjustable longitudinally, means of limiting the travel of the said guard, all substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
