Claim.—1. In a carpenter's plane a blade adjustment device attached to the blade supporting block of the plane comprising, as described, lugs in pairwise disposition on the underside of said block, a spindle bearably bridging between said lugs and screw-threaded in its middle portion, a blade adjusting block screwably mounted on said spindle for transverse movement on the turning of said spindle of said adjusting block, the end of which block projects into the conventional slotted aperture in the blade element of the plane for parallel adjustment of the blade with. respect to the slot through which said blade projects, a knob by which to rotate said spindle, an outboard collar on said spindle, and a plate straddling said spindle adjacent to said collar to maintain transverse stability of said spindle relative to said lugs.
2. The combination in a carpenter's plane as described of lugs disposed pair wise and attached to the underside of the conventional blade supporting block of the plane, a threaded spindle bearably supported by said lugs, a threaded blade adjusting block mounted on said spindle to screw-ably traverse same on turning the said spindle by hand, the said blade adjusting block entering the slotted aperture in the blade supporting element of the plane for sideways adjustment of the blade, and a plate straddling said spindle and attached to one of said lugs adjacent to a collar on said spindle to guard against lateral movement of said spindle relative to said lugs, all of which parts are non-projecting from the said blade supporting element of the plane.
