The francophone organization of the Jeux francophones de
l’Alberta was spawned from the larger French youth organization
of the province, Francophonie jeunesse de l’Alberta (FJA) which
was created in 1972. The FJA held a camping meet every year and
met with great success, led to the 1993 creation of the very
successful Fête franco-albertaine, hosted by a different
locality each year.
The FJA also decided to organize games for francophone youth
and their first competition took place 8 and 9 October 1992. The
organization has since regrouped with other French-speaking
youth groups across the West and across the country. In 2003,
they celebrated their 11th year. In 2004, the association
recreated itself to organize games for people of all ages,
instead of only for youth.
