Drawings
Drawings of the invention are an essential component of the patent
application. These patent drawings are simple but specifically detail the
technical aspects of the invention. There are usually a number of
different angles and perspectives on the drawings with a carefully labeled
legend for each portion of the invention. Drawings must show every feature
outlined by the claims. There are strict codes and regulations on the
format and style of the drawings. The uniform style makes the drawings
easier to understand for the purpose of patent records.
If an invention cannot be shown with drawings,
photographs can be used as a substitute. However, not all inventions can
be drawn or photographed, such as chemical compositions or specific
processes.
