Marketing
There is a large gap between the laboratory and the
marketplace. A researcher, an expert in a particular field, can create or
discover a groundbreaking invention or innovation, but most likely lacks the
skills required to properly bring these findings to the marketplace. The
inventor needs to answer one basic questionis my invention profitable? The
answer to this question can be found through marketing.
Essentially, marketing is a preview. It allows an inventor to venture into
the marketplace with their product, evaluate the costs and risks of
commercialization their invention and remain anonymous. An inventor,
represented by an independent marketing firm, can preview their invention
and attract potential investors or companies to fund or potentially license
their innovations. This allows an inventor to test the waters of the
marketplace at the most basic level. If their invention or innovation shows
a potential for profit, they can proceed to commercialize their findings.
Marketing is the preview to technology transfer, the initial step in
commercialization.
