Bowling Alley Pin Resetting Machine (Patent No: 593891)

Inventor: Scherzinger, Bruno (assignor)

Location: Calgary

Comments: N/A

Description: The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. For removing pins and balls from the pit of a bowling alley pin resetting machine, a conveyor adapted for the engagement and conveyance of pins and balls and means sensitive to the presence of a ball or pin in a selected area of such conveyor effective in such contingency to render said conveyor unreceptive to a further pin or ball.
2. For removing pins and balls from the pit of a bowling alley pin resetting machine, a conveyor comprising a pair of conveyor belt spans mounted to extend parallel to one another and to travel in the same direction while being spaced apart for the engagement of pins and balls therebetween, and means sensitive to the presence of a ball or pin in a selected area of such conveyor effective in such contingency to render said conveyor ineffective for the conveyance of a further pin or ball.
3. For removing pins and balls from the pit of a bowling alley pin resetting machine, a conveyor comprising a pair of conveyor belt spans mounted to extend parallel to one another and to travel in the same direction while being spaced apart for the engagement of pins and balls therebetween and means sensitive to the presence of a bail or pin in a selected area of such conveyor effective in such contingency to increase the spacing of said spans at the loading station of said conveyor whereby to render said conveyor ineffective for the conveyance of a further pin or ball.
4. The structure defined in Claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein said selected area of said conveyor is an area immediately in advance of the loading station of said conveyor in the direction of travel.
5. For removing pins and balls from the pit of a bowling alley pin resetting machine, a conveyor comprising a pair of conveyor belt spans mounted to extend parallel with one another and to travel in the same direction, movable means mounting at least one of said spans whereby the spacing thereof at a loading station of said conveyor may be varied between a first spacing at which pins and balls will be engaged between said spans, and a second spacing greater than said first spacing at which pins and balls will not be simultaneously engaged by said spans, means sensitive to the presence of a ball or pin in a selected area of such conveyor in advance in the direction of travel of said loading station, such latter means being effective on detection of the presence of a ball or pin in such selected area to move said mounting means to such second spacing.

6, For removing pins and balls from the pit of a bowling alley pin resetting machine, a conveyor comprising a pair of generally vertically extending conveyor belt spans mounted parallel to one another for the engagement of pins and balls therebetween, means for driving said spans to travel synchronously with one another means for feeding pins and balls towards the space between the lower ends of said spans, means mounting the lower end of one of such spans to be movable between an inward position in which the lower ends of said spans will co-operate to convey upwardly a bail or pin and an outward position in which the lower ends of such spans are spaced too far apart so to convey a ball or pin, means yieldably urging said mounting means to hold said lower end of said, span in such outward position, means sensitive to the presence of a ball or pin on said conveyor at an area situated a selected distance above said lower ends said latter means being effective In the presence of such a ball or pin in such selected area to act on said mounting means to move the same to bring said lower end of said span to such outward position whereby to ensure that such conveyor does not engage a further pin or ball until the engaged pin or ball has passed beyond such selected area and permitted return of the lower end of said span to said inner position.

7. For removing pins and balls from the pit of a bowling alley pin resetting machine, a conveyor including a loading station capable of three conditions, the first condition being unreceptive to pins and balls fed thereto, the second condition being receptive to pins and balls and effective to engage said pins and balls in conveying relation, and the third condition being receptive to pins and balls and ineffective to engage said pins and balls in conveying relation, means for oscillating said loading station periodically between said first and second conditions, and means sensitive to the presence of a pin or ball in a selected area of said conveyor in advance of said loading station effective in such contingency to override said first mentioned means to bring said loading station temporarily to said third condition.

8. For removing pins and balls from the pit of a bowling alley pin resetting machine, a conveyor comprising a pair of conveyor belt spans mounted to extend parallel to one another and to travel in the same direction while being spaced apart for the engagement of pins and balls therebetween, means mounting the parts of said spans at the loading station of the conveyor to be movable between a first position in which pins and balls may enter the space therebetween and be conveyed thereby and a second position in which said spans are spaced too close together to permit a pin or ball to enter therebetween, and a third position in which although said pins and balls may enter the space between said spans the latter are too widely spaced to engage a pin or ball in, conveying relation, means for oscillating said, mounting means periodically between the first and second said positions, and means sensitive to the presence of a ball or pin in a selected area, of said conveyor in advance of said loading station and effective in such contingency to move said mounting means momentarily to said third position.
