Year of the Coal Miner September 2003 - 2004


Gus relates how his father, Giuseppe, came out West, and about his early years in Edmonton before Gus was born.

Both Gus's father, Guiseppe, and mother, Teresa, worked for the Canadian National Railways - Guiseppe as foreman, Teresa as cook.  Guiseppe and Frank Romeo gave many fellow Italians their first start in the new country.

Gus Lavorato remembers Victor Losa sending him Italian books because he was studying Italian during his high school years in the Coal Branch area of Alberta.
