  • August 1885: Antonio Nigro and Giovanni Veltri [John Welch] embarked on a steamer bound for New York from a port in Belgium.
     

  • The crossing took 31 days. They first went to Montana and then in May 1887 they went to Spokane.
     

  • They worked with Giovanni's brother, Vincenzo [Vincent Welch], doing railroad construction.
     

  • In 1897, Fedele [Felix], Antonio's son, joined them in southern B.C. He was 15 years old.
     

  • Felix was involved in construction with his father and his uncles in Alberta, Saskatchewan and eastern Canada.
     

  • In 1913 Fedele went back to Italy and on March 22nd married Amelia Anselmo. They immigrated to Canada on March 31,1913.
     

  • They settled in Winnipeg and on January 11,1914 Joseph Antonio Maria was born aka Bill Nigro.
     

  • In 1920 the family moved to Clyde, Alberta.
