NOTES FOR WE ARE ALL HUNGRY

NOTES FOR WE ARE ALL HUNGRY

NAME: LINDA MARY MONTANO
TITLE: WE ARE ALL HUNGRY
SENSE: TASTE
WHY 14TH STREET COMPELLING: Food is so expensive. We eat to fill our bodies, minds, fears, desires and not our soul hunger. The poor suffer from no access to good and fresh food. We all suffer from fear that drives us to overeat. I will fast for 3 days and then be fed by a "caregiver" under a sign, WE ARE ALL HUNGRY/  This will also access my current theme of aging and the possibility of ending up in a nursing home and having to be  fed one day.
REACTION: In India, people feed the person celebrating their birthday by "feeding" them pieces of cake or a sweet. It is very very emotional to watch. Being fed triggers issues of maternal warmth-or not-, issues of breastfeeding-or not, issues of not having enough food-or too much, issues of anorexia /bulimia.  I hope this performance will have healing energies for  the audience, myself and my  "caregiver."

SLOW TIME PERFORMANCE

SLOW TIME PERFORMANCE

Time is the best medium of exchange for this TIME NOW. It is something we have very little control of and it's speed is exponentially frightening. It eats our lives, our minds and our souls. Rips us to shreds.

As artists we take time as a medium of exchange, playing with it, extending it, using it as paint, bronze, wood and we color our world with it in endurances that stretch our own and other's minds.  We want to give time back to ourselves and others.

In the spirit of extending time, Linda Mary Montano called Nicolas Dumit Estevez 2016 and began talking in slow motion, another way of enduring, a format which is Montano's practice and proclivity.

Estevez called recently in "fast time" and proposed that they do a slow-time audio performance for his upcoming show. Their listening-slow-motion extended moan and chant of a semi-intelligible conversation is the result.

As artists we are asked to solve our own art/life questions and dilemmas. Time is everyone's problema!
Slow down, talk so slowly that each word is a felt poem.
It feels real good.

LINDA AND TOBE MAKE A DEATH TAPE

LINDA AND TOBE MAKE A DEATH TAPE

LINDA: Tobe, I need to make a tape about death and need it by next week at  3pm Wednesday. Is that OK? I cant tell you where I will show it because that is not for public knowledge.

TOBE: Lordy, Linda, I do hope you make a tape about death but I thought you were finished making tapes.

LINDA: I know it is  very disturbing to investigate this but death terrifies me and I need to talk to you about it. It will be  only a 3 minute tape, ok?

TOBE: I know that. OK as long as it is  under 3 minutes I will make it.  Let me do some research. Wikipedia says that death is the cessation of all biological functions that sustain a living organism. Phenomena which commonly bring about death include biological aging (senescence), predation, malnutrition, disease, suicide, homicide, starvation, dehydration, and accidents or trauma resulting in terminal injury.[1] Bodies of living organisms begin to decompose shortly after death.

LINDA:  I know that Tobe. Our friend Wikipedia also says that death – particularly the death of humans – has commonly been considered a sad or unpleasant occasion, due to the affection for the being that has died and the termination of social and familial bonds with the deceased. Other concerns include fear of death, necrophobia, anxiety, sorrow, grief, emotional pain, depression, sympathy, compassion, solitude, or saudade. What is saudade Tobe? Oh well, let me continue. Many cultures and religions have the idea of an afterlife, and also hold the idea of reward or judgement and punishment for past sin.

TOBE: I know that.  Oh Linda, how many minutes is this by now??? You promised only 3 minutes. I thought you retired? Do we have to make this tape? Please I beg you let's not. Help!!! Help!!!!!!!!! Help.

LINDA: I know Tobe. This wont be too long. Have you ever heard of senescence? I think I have it Tobe because I'm in my late 70's. Let me tell you about it:

Senescence refers to a scenario when a living being is able to survive all calamities, but eventually dies due to causes relating to old age. Animal and plant cells normally reproduce and function during the whole period of natural existence, but the aging process derives from deterioration of cellular activity and ruination of regular functioning . I know I look fabulous and not old at  all. Maybe I wont die Tobe, what do you think?

TOBE: It's almost up. Your time that is. But here is some more information. Wikipedia says that

Signs of death or strong indications that someone is no longer alive are:

LINDA: Tobe, I'm still breathing, maybe I am still alive? DO I look alive to you????I don't think I have

  • Livor mortis, a settling of the blood in the lower (dependent) portion of the body  OR
  • Algor mortis, the reduction in body temperature following death. This is generally a steady decline until matching ambient temperature  OR
  • Rigor mortis, the limbs of the corpse become stiff (Latin rigor) and difficult to move or manipulate   OR
  • Decomposition, the reduction into simpler forms of matter, accompanied by a strong, unpleasant odor.

TOBE: I know that. You're still alive and so am I. Yayyyyyy. Time is up. Let's go get a pizza , OK? I can have this to you by Tuesday. You promise me, this is truly our last tape, right???

LINDA: I know that Tobe.  Last tape.  YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

WE ARE ALIVE OH YES WE ARE
WE'RE WELL ENOUGH TO DRIVE OUR CARS
MOW OUR LAWNS AND WASH OUR FEET
OH LIFE OH LIFE YOU'RE SUCH A TREAT ,
SUCH A TREAT OH SUCH A TREAT, SUCH A TREAT, such a treat, such a treat.

LINDA AND TOBE MAKE A POLITICAL TAPE

LINDA AND TOBE MAKE A POLITICAL TAPE

LINDA: Tobe, Wikipedia says that
Political philosophy, or political theory, is the study of topics such as politics, liberty, justice, property, rights, law, and the enforcement of a legal code by authority: what they are, why (or even if) they are needed, what, if anything, makes a government legitimate, what rights and freedoms it should protect and why, what form it should take and why, what the law is, and what duties citizens owe to a legitimate government, if any, and when it may be legitimately overthrown, if ever

TOBE: Wait wait Linda. I know that. But did you know that Wikipedia also talked about Aristotle and  said that he] was an ancient Greek philosopher and scientist born in the city of Stagira, Chalkidice, on the northern periphery of Classical Greece. His father, Nicomachus, died when Aristotle was a child, whereafter Proxenus of Atarneus became his guardian.[3] At seventeen or eighteen years of age, he joined Plato's Academy in Athens[4] and remained there until the age of thirty-seven (c. 347 BC). His writings cover many subjects – including physics, biology, zoology, metaphysics, logic, ethics, aesthetics, poetry, theater, music, rhetoric, linguistics, politics and government – and constitute the first comprehensive system of Western philosophy.

LINDA: That is old hat Tobe. I know all of that. Right now,  Im worried about the politics of right now which I know a lot about. And I need to make a tape about that.

Tobe: When do you need it by?

LINDA: Next weekend. I know you are busy but I have a show in an unnamed country. I don't name it for political  reasons. I am a political person. I am a very political person. A very erudite political person.  The tape will be  about politics and regulatory and legal protections  reverted to 12th century capitalism replacing advertising  with international  functioning  fake accounts.  Do you think we can do this by then?

TOBE: Before we begin, let me tell you about a book i'm reading about private and not for public automation operating  computers from factories  certified by off shore extensions that provide free lunch for all Carnegie Mellon employees.

LINDA: Please Tobe do not talk about food or free lunches.  It is almost  3 oclock and I need to go in an hour. Sure, I know that  privacy is a commodity compromised by monetized surveillance covering indignant  evidence that voters who have been gnomically tested consider, given  the lost languages of benefits calculators. At least that is what they told us in a class I am taking online.

TOBE: Speaking of going online, a political theme underlaying economic  resources is uranium rich although aid trickled in  including  relationship managers, personal wealth managers  and financial advisors. Im happy about that. Confluences of conquests from  entrenching  government signifies a tremendous loss over the next  33 years.

LINDA: Tobe I know all of that and your timeframe and mine have to coincide, OK?  For the powerpoint, I will  indicate that fluid frontiers and oil pipelines  superceed  executive orders on Wednesdays only. All other  contact , global  misinformation or big drug misinformants attack clueless secular  identities..

TOBE: Repealing, replacing  and sherperding  votes is legislatively congressional.

LINDA: I know that Tobe. Let's put those concepts and ideas in the next volume titled: available evidence, OK?

TOBE; I know that LInda. ok. See you tomorrow. I can UPS this to wherever you are going.

LINDA: I cant tell you where Im going. It is a top secret. My internet might be shut down . I will pick it up tomorrow. OK?

TOBE:  I know that. Ok you pick it up.

WE LOVE POLITICS YES WE DO
POLITICS  IS GOOD FOR US AND GOOD FOR YOU
WE ARE SO SMART AND
KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT POLITICS
YES WE DO  AND SO DO YOU, SO DO YOU, SO DO YOU.

BEING BOB DYLAN AT HIS 76TH BIRTHDAY PARTY IN WOODSTOCK NY

BEING BOB DYLAN AT HIS 76TH BIRTHDAY PARTY IN WOODSTOCK NY

CREATIVE SCHIZOPHRENIA
Since 1976 I have been practicing what I call " Creative Schizophrenia," a medicinal performance/theatrical character creating device that allows me to get out of my own skin safely and without the added burden of being institutionalized for public displays of difference that might offend the common good. It all started  seven score years ago and was so noteworthy/bothersome that my father named me Sarah Burnhardt, commenting no doubt on my ability to feel and dramatize the atmosphere of our home, a gift I used later on as my performance modus operandi.

SEVEN PERSONAS
The seven fairy-tale-like female personas that came OUT of me in the late 1970's were from different countries and were totally fabulous: a French poet, a British neurosurgeon, a Karate Black Belt, a Jazz singer, a nun . You can see them for free on You Tube: Learning To Talk. At that time, for over a year I sat in front of a video camera and talked as them, interviewed myself as them, became them and escaped from being me which is admittedly a great Theological device but at the time was an indication of an untreated DSM's listing of  medical conditions with verifiable labels like: PTSD/Depression/Untreated Grief/Tragic Trauma/Dissociation/Suicidal Ideation. If I had been a seriously practicing and loyal Hindu Vedantist at that time I would have been content and silent, not touched a video camera and meditated on their salient, holy statement which warns: "I am not this body and mind," a mantra I could have murmured over and over,"I am not this body and mind, I am not this body and mind, I am not this body and mind." My Guru from India would have applauded and approved of my using his teachings to heal myself, but no, artist that I am, I resorted to video and MY WAY, creating a therapy that fits my rebellious nature.

CATHOLICISM And having grown up strict Roman Catholic and even going as far as entering a convent for 2 years so I could become a saint-in-training, I could have gone quietly into the depressed night, not made videos of myself as these successful, fabulous and professionally alluring women and instead, could have practiced a Christian mystical/Biblical version of inner persona morphing and also could have prayed mantra-like day and night: "It is not I that lives but Christ who lives in me. It is not I that lives but Christ who lives in me. It is not I that lives but Christ who lives in me." Again, art won out, I didn't do that but continued taking care of my mental business via video/performance/writing books and teaching my art-life methods all over the world and created my own " Linda's church of art." In this church, I made the rules and I was the live-in priest.

BECOMING OTHERS
Some thirty years later, the recipe of being fantasy people so I could learn how to like being me changed from my wanting to be fairy-tale people and I began wanting to become and act like REAL people. For example; Hillary Clinton, Jill Johnston, Paul McMahon, Mother Teresa and Bob Dylan were the one's I dopplegangered in the hopes of getting close to me, not to them. See Masks, you tube. The thought is, I love being Mother Teresa and all of these sundry wonderful people, can I love being me as much as I love being them? Little did I know that being them and loving them was a lube/prompt to liking me and that I was next in line. Sometime soon I would become a maskless ME!

BEING BOB
Just last night, May 27, 2017, Woodstock NY celebrated Bob Dylan's 76th birthday at the Bearsville Theatre. The organizer, Luann Bielawa, offered me a comp ticket because I had already performed a 7 hour Bob Dylan lip-synch event on a lift for 7 hours a few years ago and she knew of this performance and my belief that I looked like him and wanted everyone else to believe that as well. See Tobe Carey's  you tube, Linda As Bob. Actually my two brothers really do look like him and when I self-apply a thin moustache on my upper lip and wear the right hat, jacket, cowboyish pants and sunglasses, I pass for him a little. So last night I applied the moustache at home, drove to the theatre, drank my semi-cold Genesee beer in the car when I arrived there and then began my walk to the venue into invisibility because only twice that entire night did I "get" the reaction, get the applause, get the nod, get the "Oh look, it's really Bob," reaction that I expected. In fact, what I got was an interesting non-nod of "let's not notice this person because IT MIGHT BE BOB and we are Woodstockians and we are so cool and so used to illuminati and famous personages being in our town, in our midst, in our bars, in our restaurants, that it is actually RUDE to acknowledge them and spoil their need for privacy, anonymity and real time presence." So they didn't paparazzi me, didn't ask for an autograph, didn't smile, except for that one woman who flirted with/wanted me and the other woman friend who got that it was me/Bob but never came over to let me know that she knew.

THE REAL REASON
Thank God that a man scrambling to his seat in the theatre, rubbed past my legs and gave me at least an, "Excuse me sir," and that made my day but after two hours of listening to incredibly phenomenal Bob Dylan music played superbly by Woodstock musician artists, I was blown into such happiness and let-me-touch-your-feet appreciation of people who don't look like Bob but sound his words, his feelings, his poetry and his brilliance sans a faux moustache, Dylan hat or sunglasses that I realized, I'm closer to letting them honor Bob and letting me just be ME!
DSM begone. My mask is almost off.
