LETTER TO THE NEW YORK TIMES ABOUT ECSTACY

Dear NEW YORK TIMES LETTERS TO THE EDITORS:

What a joy! In the article June 23, EXPERT ON MENTAL ILLNESS REVEALS HER OWN FIGHT, Marsha Linehan talks about one of the greatest Roman Catholic spiritual possibilities: the ability of a Catholic practitioner to have a truly safe, transforming, healing, life changing, ecstatic and mystical experience. Not to mention why this is so refreshingly needed and uplifting, or why the Church needs this fabulous PR now more than ever, I keep silent, but I would like to extend the teachings already stated in Benedict Carey's most needed and appreciated article, by translating some more of Marsha Linehan's statments made on the accompanying video produced by Nick Harbaugh & Suo Jeong Kang, video by Damon Winters, because I feel it is so very important to not only hear her words but to read them as well.
After Ms. Linehan's experience of light and love in front of the Chapel crucifix, she says," ...I ran back to my room, and I said, I think outloud, I LOVE MYSELF. And the minute the word myself came out of me I knew I had been completely transformed. Because up until that point, I would have never said that. I would have said, " I love you, " because I had no sense of myself. I thought of myself as you. And the minute the word myself came from me, I knew and I've always known ever since that I would never cross that line again to being crazy."
New York Times, Marcha Linehan and artists who brought this to us, thanks for the hope.
In art/life,
Linda Mary Montano
