SINGING THE NYC PHONEBOOK

SINGING THE NYC PHONE BOOK: CENTER FOR BOOK ARTS:  Linda Mary Montano

OCTOBEER 7, 2016

Many years ago, I chanted the names of people in a phone book from a tower in a mid western city.

It was a majestic and  classic and grandiose event . But alas, it was banned and shut down because it reverberated all over the area and sounded eerily like a death chant.

That was years ago.

For Nicolas Dumit Estevez's event titled: ENACTING THE TEXT: PERFORMING WITH WORDS

I WILL:

Chant names and not addresses from the Manhattan phone book.

This is not a dirge although maybe a reminder that we all will die some day.

Why am I doing this?

I  like to sing and will use any occasion and excuse to do so.

My current work is now INTERACTIVE because I am old enough to know it is no longer about me, but about us.

The audience will be invited to participate sonically.

Never fear, it will be easy.
