RESUME VIA ESTEVEZ

RESUME

Linda Mary Montano has devoted more than four decades to an on-going exploration of art in everyday life  this topic via time-based performances and endurances that transpire over one, seven, fourteen, twenty-one years, and even a lifetime. Her books, Art in Everyday Life and You Too Are a Performance Artist, are definitive guides to this concept of art being made from what happens in life. An example is Seven Years of Living Art, for which the artist dressed in a given color for a full year and gave her attention to a specific Chakra . In Montano’s word, the impetus behind this action was “…to train the mind not to wander, shop around, or buy into the millions of distractions that impinge minute-to-minute.” Upon concluding the duration, 14 Years of Living Art,1984-1998, she opened a school titled Another 21 Years of Living Art and invited other artists, including Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens, to generate their own visions and methodologies for transforming life into art . Montano has also performed for the camera, and explores different imaginative and real personas, including Lamar Breton, a French poet and Mother Theresa of Calcutta
