Parents whose children are in public child care facilities in Bern can rest easy knowing their children are getting their vegetables!

The City of Bern requires that all such facilities serve meat or fish no more than once or twice each week, and that when there is a meat option, there also has to be a vegetarian option. Most ingredients are local, sustainable, and carry the “IP Suisse” designation (which means they meet certain standards for animal welfare and environmental sustainability).

What’s next?

Bern is doing a great job making sure children in child care facilities have access to healthy, vegetarian food. Next up, they should expand these requirements to more schools and magnify their impact!
