Senate committee narrowly backs Trump pick for NASA chief 

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Senate committee on Wednesday narrowly backed President Donald Trump's nominee to serve as the next NASA chief.

Republicans on the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee used their slender majority to overcome objections from Democrats to advance the selection of Rep. Jim Bridenstine, R-Okla. The party-line vote was 14-13.

NASA partners with Uber on flying taxis

In just over two years, Uber says it will let commuters soar over Los Angeles' snarled traffic in flying taxis.

The ride-hailing firm announced Wednesday that L.A. will be one of the first cities served by UberAir, which it says will begin ferrying passengers across the region in electric aircraft in 2020.

Kuiper Belt Object 2014 MU69 is a mouthful. So NASA is asking for help to name the icy body that Pluto explorer New Horizons is set to visit in just over a year.

The spacecraft flew past Pluto in July 2015, providing the first clear view of the former planet.

Astronaut Richard Gordon, who circled the moon on Apollo 12, dies at 88

Former Apollo 12 astronaut Richard Gordon, one of a dozen men who flew around the moon but never landed there, has died, NASA announced Tuesday. He was 88.

Gordon was a test pilot chosen in NASA's third group of astronauts in 1963.

He flew on Gemini 11 in 1966, walking in space twice.
