The booklet entitled “Guide-Souvenir La Mission de Saint-Albert”, was published in July 1929 in order to mark the unveiling of the Father Albert Lacombe statue in Saint-Albert on Sunday July 21, 1929.
Fabricated in Vaucouleurs in France at the request of M. Joseph Chatain, the director of Edmonton’s Church Supplies Wholesale Ltd., the bronze statue was financed by a national subscription. The committee responsible for the creation of the monument and for the fund-raising activities organized in order to pay for the restoration of the first catholic chapel in Saint-Albert was presided by Father Jan. The Lacombe statue was established at the very site chosen for the Saint-Albert Mission by Mgr Taché and Father Lacombe in 1861.
Known as the man with a good heart, Father Albert Lacombe was the founder of Saint-Albert. Born in Saint-Sulpice P.Q. on February 26, 1827, he passed away in Midnapore on December 12th 1916. (Archives CSJ. Duro IP189)
